Today, we’re announcing the next major enhancement for developers building front-end experiences using Box UI Elements. These enhancements come in the form of three new features:

  • A new Grid View for the Explorer Element.
  • Integration of brand new tasks capabilities integrated in the Preview and Sidebar Elements.
  • File and folder version viewing and switching, also embedded in the Preview and Sidebar Elements.

Taking advantage of these new features can be accomplished simply by upgrading your Box Elements JavaScript and CSS files to v11.0 using our installation instructions.

Let’s take a look at what these new features deliver:

Content Explorer Grid View

The new Grid View option will allow your customers to switch between the traditional list of file names to a grid view in the Explorer Element. This will allow for quick previews of the content to make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for without directly clicking to preview.

New Tasks Experience

When previewing files your customers now have a much richer Tasks experience. Within the sidebar of the preview they will now be able to assign approval and review tasks, interact with those task assignments, and close out completed items directly within the Elements experience. On the development front the complexity for including these features in your application using Elements is drastically reduced.

Visual Versions

Visual versions with Box Elements 11

Visual versioning delivers an extensive update around how file versions can be interacted with when previewing a file. This new option will allow a customer to easily view and switch between current and previous version of files, allowing them to quickly inspect changes over time.

To enable visual versions, ensure that you set hasVersions: true in your Sidebar properties when you integrate with Elements. This will automatically integrate the feature when previewing a file.

We hope that these new features deliver much richer interactions and capabilities with Box UI Elements for you, your business, and your customers. Should you have any questions or support requests to integrate these new features, please reach out to us via our developer forum.
